HU in 2002 Nissan Sentra

I'm trying to install a HU in a friends car and the dash kit I got doesn't fit the HU its too small. Anyone with one of these cars install a HU and figure out how to get around this issue?

The kit fits the car perfectly. The cutout for the HU is too small. Its just like this one here:

and the cut out is too small and those flaps that screw into the dash for support or way too far together to fit a single DIN in the gap even if I were to cut it out more. So I'm thinking I'll just cut it out and go without those extra supports.

i put mine in without a problem. (have a 02 sentra spec-v) sure you got the right one? remeber, you don't use the cage on this one. it uses the screws in the side of the HU.

thats the same one i have. don't cut anything. you don't use the trim ring with those. give me a sec and i'll post pic's of mine.

This one has the RF stereo in it. Is that going to change anything. Cuz I tried it without the cage too and the HU is still too wide. The height is ok but the width is too short.

Also did you use the plastic supports on the side or just attach it right to that metal support piece that the original HU was on?

can you get a pic of it? unless there is something weird going on with the back side of it, it should fit just right. what HU is it btw?

both. metel on the inside touching the HU, plastic on the outside.

a VR3 that I had hooked up in my car but I upgraded and sold it to him. I'll try the opening with the Pioneer I have in my car but I swear the cutout is not wide enough to fit it.

If I can't get it tomorrow I'll take pics of the whole thing. Its really pissing me off cuz I told him it was going to be simple and its turning into a huge hassle.

Hi tr10av and rollerdj,

Not sure if you will see this post since it is several months old now, but I just started the process of replacing my HU and I have run into the EXACT same problem w/ my '02 Sentra. The opening in the dash kit is too small. I can get the face of the HU to just barely fit through the opening from the inside, but then the face can't flip down like it is supposed to. The pic you posted above on photobucket is no longer showing, so I can't see if my kit is correct or not. Tr10av, can you let me know how you eventually solved your problem? Did you have to cut the hole a little bigger or did you figure out another way to make it work? Any suggestions, photos, etc. would be great. Thanks in advance!
