HU Ground

Behind my dash there is what looks like to be galvanized metal of some sort. I tried using it as a ground but it would not work.

If I sand it down a bit will it work as a ground? I am thinking it might be coated with some type of rust preventer or something.

no dont use any metal in teh dash as a ground.

I figured the dash will be better than the wire the comes off the harness.

no, ground with your amps. or ground some where in the kick panel. grind paint off. and bolt.

Im gonna try to find me a new ground... even to Im using the [safety] frame under the dash as my current HU ground... a very slight alt whine, but its still there...

the [safty] frame, is spot welded to the car. not even solid.

Wiring to sheet metal or amp grounds will prevent the alt whine. I thought that steel back there was solid. I was wrong.

Thanks. Worked great, or atleast the Hu turned on.

The sheet metal in the kick is kinda thin. Maybe 10 or 12 ga steel. I could probably bend it with my hands and I am weak as shit.
