ok...my dad has a factory hu that has cass. tape and it has a i think 7 band eq. ( old style with slide switches and all) and he has another 10 band eq made by alpine that putts out 25watts that he wants to put on it to get alittle more out of this hu...is this pos> ?

well to do it you can get converters but if it has some crazy ohm speakers it might not work but all the time wireing it in and the cost of the converters (if needed) would be more than the thing is worth by about a ten fold. the power output wouldnt hardly be noticable. if indeed it was an increase. as an installer i could do it and make a pretty penny but ethically i WOULDNT do it for the reasons i posted and for the fact your dad would be swearing something was wrong. that factory system isnt like the pioneer 6x9's he had it hooked up too and the "factory power" has gone up since the early-mid 80's.

"booster" EQs used to be pretty common; they were designed to take a low power, speaker level input and amplify it with an EQ thrown in. If your Alpine is that type it wouldn't be too tough to install.

if it doesnt have hi level inputs and so forth it could be depnds on the system. but lets say t has a bose system it wouldnt work without changing speakers. besides that power wise unless the car is from the 70's or 80's that "booster" will produce less power.
