How to test eq

I purchased a new Clarion 746 a few months ago. I went to install it and can't get it to power on. Is there a quick way to test it? I can't even get the light to come on in vehicle so took it out. Hope I didn't buy a already dead eq. I can't return it now it's been past 90 days. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just hook the wire to the battery?

yep. pos/neg and remote to pos if needed. it's the same 12v

Just like an amp, remote and power (twist together) wires to the + of the battery, ground to the - of the battery. But yes as stated above, test it directly at the battery.
