How to strip paint from chrome bumpers?

Got a little paint overspray on the bumpers of my 67 Falcon, im wondering what chemical i can get to take it off without harming the chrome? Tried rubbing it with paint thinner but im gonna need some hardcore stuff, and ive never done chemical stripping before. I have some fine wire wheels that might work, but i dont wanna damage the chrome.

Chrome polish should do it. If not, a compound should. If you don't have a buffer, though, you're in for a lot of work.

You should also try soaking the paint with thinner. Get a rag, soak it, and leave it on the paint for a few minutes. That should make it much easier to remove.

I may pull them off and take a wire wheel to them, the chrome is not show quality anyway, i plan on getting them redone. I wire wheeled a little area on them and it didnt seem to scratch the chrome at low RPM. Has some pitting and such in some areas but pitted chrome looks better than chrome with blue overspray.

baby oil...Gas, acatone, brake fluid, did you try anything? I wouldnt wire brush it, it will rust and look worse then the paint ever did.

And did you spray paint your car a new paint job?

Im getting the car media blasted and painted once i get the interior back together and finish the inside sheet metal work.
Shit, what would i look line spray painting a 67 falcon sports coupe? Lulz. The bumpers came off another car (68) they were painted i assume to hide the pitting, and i wanna try and get some of the shine back out of them. i like the 68 bumper style better though. The paint on it is a very thin coat and should come off easy with some stripper, but i dont wanna use the spray kind. I couldnt find the gel kind at walmart.

Take the bumper off, use the spray aircraft remover, don't let it sit too long, after it bubbles, scrape it of with plastic bondo spreaders, I used to work paint and body. I think most people thought that you had a "little paint" on the edge of your chrome bumper or something, not a fully painted bumper, only way to get it off if the whole bumper has it is to use the aircraft remover. I think muratic acid would fock it so no, that stuff eats metal, LOL @ DBfan187 for recommending that, don't do it.

Oh, and be sure to wash it with soap/water when done to get the rest of the aircraft remover residue off. If you leave it on it might discolor it worse than it is, rust it, or be hard to get off if left too long. After you wash it buff it with chrome polish or a LIGHT compound (like white compound, not brown) and it will help it shine up.
