how to mod an mtx 1501d

Modding it is pretty easy if you're familiar with removing circuits with a soldering iron. You have to remove resistor Q240 from the board and release the compression circuit. .

The dont do it from the factory because the chip you remove is the part of the protection circuitry that shuts the amp down if it see's a load below 2 ohms (ie dead short) so when modded you have to be careful not to touch the speaker leads together while the amp is on, or you will short it out. And yes the mod will allow up to 18.5 dc volts and down as low as you feel comfortable on impedance... I wouldnt suggest any lower than .5 for daily.

q 240 is located in the south west quadrant of the amp... you have to be careful to not remove d240 that is right beside it. Also, the compression circuit is a little white button next to the rca end of the amp. It needs to be pushed in the "out" position.

i just copied and pasted these from my pm's so try and figure them out....

pretty much you solder out 1 resistor and flip a switch

Just hook it up, turn it up to full power and piss on the speaker outputs... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

The one you're getting from me *is* modded. Only difference is for safety you might wanna turn the compression circuit on if you're not familiar with proper gain setting. (Long story short, at those really low impedances clipping can damage the amp.)

Couldn't have said it better myself. Also, be careful with the RCA's. NEVER NEVER NEVER unplug OR plug in the RCA's while the car is on (basically while the unit is on...just make sure it's off...I recommend turning off vehicle to be sure. ) It can cause a spike, and fry the amp.

ya im happy im getting one already modded, i was just alil curious as to how they get modded.....

also very good point, no touching speaker outputs of removing rcas while car on....BAD

thanks for the input guys

also raven...how would i go about turning the compression circuit on if i want to? i'll set my gains right but im also curious about that

Look for an opening in the ends...on the RCA side...left...

Insert a small flathead...press down...it's like a spring-loaded white plastic button. You should be able to tell depressed, and un-depressed when you find it and play with it.

you can toggle the compression circuit with the MTX cover on.. you don't have to take it off. only to mod it you will of course. to turn the compression circuit off there is a tiny hole next to the XOVER knob i belive. aall you need to do is sticc a paper clip or some skinny object in and press the button.. you can feel if it is in or out.. if its in the compression circuit is on.. if out its off. i have mine off. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
