How to do ported midbass?

I'm trying to figure out if it can be done with 2 8's or 1 10" subwoofer, not a midbass driver? What do I tune the box to for strong midbass output? Does the amp need to be on lowpass? I read somewhere that the port needs to be tuned to 90hz? What does the xover need to be set to on the amp? Can this be done with a d-class amp or does it need to be full range? I'm thinking about doing this up front in the center console. Will it be louder or should I stick with sealed?

I thought about trying this too. I definatly would go with the 8s if you tried it considering midbass drivers are usually 6.5. As far as the settings go id say you would just have to play with it a bit and im sure a EQ would make it alot easier. i dunno if its worth the hassle vs. just going sealed, but it would be nice to see someone give it a try. lol.

Yeah, I'm determined to do this with some 8's or some shallows that will perform in a small ported. I'm looking for spl type midbass because at times 4 12's can feel like a wind tunnel. I've already shopped for midbass drivers and didn't like what I saw. I think the 6.5's will be too small. I think trying to get this type of midbass out of 2 way comps is impossible. I think Meade has done this, but his may be sealed. Well he has those Rockford 8's or 10's in his doors tuned for midbass, but they are subwoofers.

ok here it is i wouldnt even do it, unless the driver is meant to be a midbass driver, ive posted something askin about this a while back. subs are not midbass drivers and are not meant to be, they are only meant to reach certain frequencies(so take that into consideration), and when gettin out of their frequency they will begin to sound horrible. it can be done, but it isnt the best way to get SQ. if you want good SQ midbass, get some good 6.5 components, they also make add on midbass woofers which is a good idea.

the high frequency resonse on those subs is also 250hz and i doubt meade has them set any higher than that, maybe lower, i could be wrong, but think about it he has like 10 speakers in each door. so take into consideration between what frequencies you want your "midbass driver" to play.

i run ported midbass in my doors of my camry. i fiberglassed a .55f enclosure in each door and tuned it to 80hz. I run 2 5.25's but damm does it pound. each set gets 400w+ and it sounds so good i run a single 10in sub to fill the low end 80hz down.

What do you have the amp's xover set to? Are those true midbass drivers that call for an enclosure? Do you have the amp on low pass or full range? I'm assuming this is a 5.25 component set you're using and you have the amp set to Full? What made you decide to port your mids?

I use 2x 5in morel mids

they are played on there own amp from the tweeters at 24db crossover bandpass from 80hz to about 3500hz i can get away with lower tuning but the size i got max with fiberglass limits what i can tune to ya know 80hz was the sweet spot with a 1.5in slot port

I run 3 boston acu amps the gt-28's

1 on my morel tweeters, 1 on the midbass and 1 on my 10in jl audio w7 sub
