How To Check Voice Coil?

can anybody here tell me how to check the voice coil?

I bought a 15 inch robot underground sub from somebody and it started smoking when I hooked it up parallel, but when I hook each voice coil up independently both plays fine but not loud.

How do i check the resistance between the voice coils?

it might have been backwards even though the reds and blacks were the right way. making it wire backwards. use a 9v battery and test each coil with it. pos to pos neg to neg. it should go out if its wired right iirc
