How to become a producer?

start making beats and sell them to rich people im sure. im also sure you and scott storch are the only DJ's out there doing it. should be an easy business to start. god luck ruling the world.

He is very talented, and he has many people who wants his beats. I think most producers start off producing for individual rap groups and then some mega-producer-person finds out about them and signs them (if they make good beats).

Actually hes broke... but the traditional way would be to goto a "sound school," one that teaches you how to work on the equipment and software (the advanced stuff, not just acid), there usually pretty expensive though and I don't think there are any nationally accrediated schools in that field, but I could be completly wrong.

Or you could be like all the other wealthy producers and just be good at it and start from the bottom.

or do like everyone around here does download Fruity Loops and get very good at it. Two friends of mine have been doing it for about 2 years and they charge about 100 a beat local. Professional sounding beats...

I used to do it for fun with Reason. It gets boring real quick since you are essentially making 5 second sound clips. I'd say learn an instrument if for nothing more than to learn song structure and good phrasing. You could chop that up into bite size chunks and make beats through improvization.

just grab em from the past
Winnar.

Most beats are just modified Motown Jams anyways. But I have heard some that wake my old *** up. There is a young black boy about 35 miles from me. He makes the most hella beats of anyone on fruity loops, and he got got mad flow skillz. His name is Michael Esquire, but I can't find his shit on Limewire. I got 1 demo CD with 8 songs, got 1 from an old Isley Brothers track called "Getting Head"

fvck fruity loops. that's what a lot of those kids used when I was in hs. Reason is where it's at, mr. slickback.

My school, Middle Tennessee State University, offers some kind of Recording Degree. It is supposed to be highly competitive, but most of the "smarter" kids chose degrees with a better pay-off.
