First off, thank you for taking the time to come and help answer my question.
I'm building a slot vented enclosure for a 12' Type R, and I have pretty strict outer dimensions I would like to stick to. My questions is whether or not the walls of the vent need to be constructed out of 3/4" MDF like the rest of the enclosure. I think I have done a good job of maximizing the vent length, but I need to lower the displacement of the vent to hit the tuning frequency I'm shooting for.
I was thinking to help cut down on vent displacement I could use either 1/2" MDF or even 1/4" on certain non load bearing walls. I just don't know what kind of forces the vent walls need to withstand, or if overly thin walls will lead to vibrations, although part of me thinks that if the vent walls vibrate it will aid in the resonation of the vent.
Any insight you guys can offer into this situation would be much appreciated. Personally, I don't thick the vent wall thickness is all that important long as the vent built well, but I'm here for your guys' opinions.
Thanks again for your time,
-Jared
