How the hell

I heard this on this news and I didn't believe what I had heard until I went online to double check.
That shit just baffles my mind.

So... if Mike Vick would've just paid the dogs relatives some money and fed them some T-Bones he shouldn't have done any jail time? The amount of money you have shouldn't lessen the amount of time you spend in jail when you commit a crime.
You need to think for a second....why is killing someone a crime? Because people close to him suffer a loss. If they are made good, then what is the issue? A normal family wouldn't be "made good" by a financial settlement and would probably like his life taken from his family as Stallworth did to them. This family would rather be compensated than have Stallworth serve jailtime.

Micheal Vicks crimes where made with premeditation he knew what he was doing.Stallworrths crime was an accident he didnt plan on killing the guy.
This. and Stallworth was empathetic and apologetic. Vick lied about everything and made himself look like a bigger douche

good point flip.

It doesn't matter dick what the family would rather have. This was a criminal proceeding, not a civil suit. Just because this rich prick could afford to pay them off, then he should walk? Kinda like Michael Jackson?

**** that... everyone affected here has not been 'compensated' or had things 'made right'. Not everyone involved is happy with the outcome.... how about the schmuck who got splattered???? You think he's ok with being dead so his family can buy a few new cars and some big friggin' dubz????

Regardless of the payoff (which I can see might forestall a civil suit), Stallworth was driving drunk, an act he knew was not only dangerous but also illegal. Being drunk when you fire a gun into someone's brainpan doesn't absolve you from liability or responsibility. Choosing to take those drinks, and subsequently choosing to get behind the wheel of a car is a conscious decision that cost another man his life.

All this trial goes to show is that if you have enough money, you can get away with just about anything.

Not like this is anything we didn't already know...

Your level of satisfaction with any legal proceedings is of no consequence to what the outcome should or should not be.

There is legal precedent about the victim here. The victim cannot be compensated by the fact he is not alive. Deceased people cannot sue, only his family can.

I have no problem at all with the outcome of this case.

Because he went to trial, he didn't "get away" with anything. Because he didn't receive what you feel is just punishment, he did receive a fair trial.

Plea bargain, not judgment.

And no, it has no bearing, my feelings on the matter. But this is a board for discussion, for opinions, and I'm offering mine. I think our criminal justice system is much too lax as it is, but this is just one more of the many examples of money and fame buying freedom.

So as long as its cool with you that I kill your mother, then its ok? as long as you dont care or get compensated enough by me? wether it be by money, drugs, what ever? that makes it fine?

That's my point.... paying off the family doesn't absolve you of the crime. And I don't agree that killing someone is a crime only because people close to him suffer a loss.... it is a crime to kill someone through intent or criminal negligence, period.

For instance, if Lil' Wayne were to come to my hometown, and I popped a cap in his dome, would it be a crime? No one on the planet cares about Lil' Wayne as a person or a celebrity, I mean seriously... if he died, it wouldn't hurt anyone at all... even his own mother thinks he's a douchebag, and she'd prolly be happy 'cause then she might get access to his money. So could I walk free after doing it?

Killing someone with a gun is murder thats a little different then manslaughter. He didnt get of easy. I had a friend who was killed by his father that ran him over while drunk and he got a similiar sentance.

In my opinion killng someone while drunk should be murder no mattter what. I have a big problem with people that drink and drive.

Ditto.... we take much to casual a stance on this in our country, I'm afraid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Well, in this case you'd have to convince my father, but for the most part, yes.
