How powerfull of an amp(s) for my 4-15's? (specs inside)

Hi,

I'm looking to pick up a used amp or 2 from craigslist or ebay soon but am not really sure what I should be looking for.

I have 4 - 15 inch Cerwin Vega Stealth subs, 2 are 4 ohms, and 2 are 8 ohms. The whole ohmage thing is really confusing to me.

According to this site they are both 250 watts RMS (500 watts Maximum).

So should I go for 2 separate amps for each set, or get 1 amp for both, and what wattage(s) should I go for.

I did have them hooked up with some cheap Boss War amp I picked up for 100 bux new before, not sure what rms it was but its max was 1200 watts and I fried it in less than 2 years.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

problem 1 ) junk subs

problem 2) multiple ohm load subs in a single wiring setup

problem 3) you were using a junk amp

problem 4) you sound incredibly dumb because you havent taken the time to do some research on how to properly set up a substage, thus, making a dumb thread.

The mix matched ohm load is what your main problem is. It doesn't allow things to be set in a linear, equal level very well. Unless you happen to stumble upon an amp such as a JL Slash series that gives the same power output at every supported ohm load. Even so, it'd still be an inexact science and bothersome.

My advice would either be keep two identical woofers and get 1 amp to power them. Or get new subs that are identical. There are alot of nice woofers floating around.

Thanx BG for bein the only one to offer some advice without actin like an arrogant ***, I will start there and maybe upgrade the subs when/if I get some extra cash.

To the others, pfft whatever someone gave me the subs free over 10 years ago already boxed when he found them in a house he bought and I dropped 40 bux on a cheap amp at a flea market. I've never had the cash lyin around to get a top of the line system nor the time to research them. I suppose for some of you that makes me an idiot, oh well all I got for you is a middle finger wavin in the air.

Not showing disrespect towards anyone; but for a grand total of 40 bucks. He could have down alot alot alot worse. Obviously its not very good equipment. But free is free.

I didn't buy a totally useless system. I did spend 40 bux on the amp and got over a year out of it, and it sounded good. Now I have the money to get a decent amp so I started researching a bit and couldn't find any useful info on setups with woofers of different ohmages so I asked a question, and now I know its not a good idea.

No, I'm saying b4 you bought anything, you should have asked or did some research 1st. But it doesnt matter now that the damage is done. Which pair of subs do you plan on running?
