How much watts should I use for l7?

I am using 2 kicker L7 12"s. They are rated at 750rms. But I have been hearing that they will take in the 1000-1200 range. The question is weather or not to put 2500 watts on them for daily use. I know amps are not 100% efficient so, Will the VIper 2500D be to much?

you can but make a smaller box than specs. more box volume the less wattage needed for full excursion. Also use a wide port area.

kicker provides 3 box selections in their manual, sealed, street witch is like 3cubes per, and SPL witch is like almost 5 cubes per. I had a street made for like $400 so I am not going to replace the box. But u think the 3cubes per is bad for all that wattage?

just be conservative with the gains and you should be golden. given the right box, and install, you could run 2500 watts to a single ported L7 (like polecat).
it depends on the thermal limits of the woofers coils and how much air is pushed across the coils to keep them cool. (i.e. the box)

I see you used to own some L7's. How many watts did u put on them?

I used to have 2 l7's in a small sealed box with around 850-900 watts going to them. It was pretty rediculous how loud it was. You don't need a Viper 2500D but if it's what you have already then go for it and let that shlt WANG!. Just set the gains properly and make sure your electrical is good enough to support it and nothing bad will happen.

The real question to ask is are you prepared to upgrade you electrical system to support an amp that big for a few extra dBs? Half the power (and only half the strain on the alt) is only 3 dBs less in a perfect world and once you figure in power compression, it is probably closer to 1.5.

i used to have a L7 2005 model i was running 1500 rms to it for daily driving it did fine and hit good. and it was in a ported box. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
