how much w rms can a 110 amp alternator handle

An amp isn't always drawing the rated power, only when driven to clipping it maxes out, and there are numerous factors that effect how much the amp draws, including operating efficiency, temperature, and system voltage. Also since music is dynamic, it helps to know what you listen too.

I was told it is 1kw for ever 70 amps. if your alt is charging during driving play, you should be getting max charging around the 110amps. and if your using 30amps on the car and listening to a system, around 1kw total peak power you might still see some diming or loss on recharging capabilities. but if you dont listen all the time and not full tilt you should be ok.

really depends on a lot of factors. one of the most important is your music selection and listening habits. if you constantly crank up continuous bass heavy music for extended periods, your battery won't charge properly. hook up your system first, then go from there.

a second battery will help to reduce dimming / voltage drop somewhat, but it will also make it more difficult for the alternator to properly charge both of them.
