how much to ask for a settlement?

alright a couple months ago some random guy came up to my car and punched me in the face for no reason i filed a police report and they found him. a couple of days ago i got a letter asking what had happened and how much money i would like out of the deal.

what do you guys think i should ask for.

i ended up with a black eye a busted lip and chipped tooth.

I would ask for dental costs and $8500, and be willing to settle for dental cost and $5,000.

I would also mention that you have been thinking about seeing a therapist because you feel this unprovoked and traumatic incident might have left you with long term emotional damage.

I would also contact an attorney instead of asking here in the lounge.

agreed. Let him decide. If you got a letter out of the blue asking for your damages then he must be hot shit or in hot water. Either way, lawyer up and capitalize.

Just a little FYI, punitive damages are very rare especially if there aren't any compensatory damages. I wouldn't expect anything, but I would throw down a $1,000 for fun. The process isn't very quick either, it could take months before anything happens. Good luck to you though. And that is a pretty funny story, lol.
