So I had a 97 subaru legacy gt that recently died (RIP Lexy) but kept my sub and amp combo and still have some wiring to work with. Being an audiophile I need to have some sort of system in my next car. So I have been driving my mom's 2003 honda odyssey around and honestly I don't mind it. Its not the looks on the outside that matter, its how clean and comfortable you feel on the inside. So I've really been thinking I might just try to take the van from my mom and make that thing wang. My sub is a 10" kicker cvx off 400 watts from an alpine subwoofer. I know, doesn't sound like much, but trust me its a good combo and got plenty loud for me and honestly most listeners. Even my guy at my local car audio store could not believe I only had one 10" in my car and loved its sound. Said it could probably get to 130 db. And after learning more about car audio I turned down my lpf to 85 and sound deadened my trunk and it was a night and day difference and one of the best sounding subwoofers I've heard.
So thinking about this project mini if I get it, how would the same sub and amp combo sound in the mini? If you've seen an odyssey they have a recessed trunk, so the top of the sub would be sitting about floor level and I would have it firing up of course. The mini is long too and open of course so how does this sound? Would it lose some volume up front at driver spot because it has to travel a further distance (probably about 15 ft)? How does it sound and how does loudness compare for a sub firing upward in an open cabin vehicle compared to firing backwards in a sedan?
My guesses is that it would be louder and sound pretty good. The only problem is the mini carries a lot of road noise so proper deadening would be needed. And after hearing the difference in my sube from deadening I would like to really go all out on the project and get about 40 sq ft of deadener and some MLV as well to quiet up the cabin. Let me know that you guys think.
