so how much negotiating can you do on a new car? we have been to a bunch of dealers within the last month and it seems like none of them want to give the deals you hear about or you see on TV or in the news papers. so i'm wondering how much you guys have been able to talk the dealers down on a new car after they give you the price with rebates and everything? if it helps were looking at a mountaineer right now and it stickers at 36 and we can get it for 29 out the door.

You can or can't? It also depends on if the 36k is already including rebates and a slew of other shit already being discounted.

Some dealers such as Scion and Saturn do this no-haggle shit where they won't work at all but from what I understand Mercury should still be willing to work with you.

Three years ago I would say your price is a bit much to ask but with SUVs selling so cheap now I would think it would be the time to buy.

The best thing to do is to get out of the mindset of how much you are talking them down. That's looking at it from the wrong direction IMO.

Instead, find out what their cost is and go from there.

There are services out there, but it's been a few years since I bought. You can find out what dealer cost is, incentives, holdbacks, everything.

Man....thats alot off, its like the car being listed at like 24k....if its out door for 29k....maybe more, dont know what ur tax is

I know at GMC we really didnt have that much play in ours...most were really low already and came with some 1500 or so factory rebates

It's not about the "out the door price" it's how much did you put down, what are the payments and for how long. I suspect if you tried to write a check for $29k you would see some serious back tracking from the sales people. Maybe not though.

Its all about the out the door price

They dont care about what ur terms are....they dont make money off the interest, or anything after the price you signed the finance

You can have your own financing and be set

I wouldnt put down anything personally.....every 1000 bucks only puts you down around $10 bucks per month difference

dealers and papers advertise "explorers FROM XX,XXX" When you ask for THAT DEAL, they simply say, we had one of them, its gone. The old bait and switch.... I never buy brand new. I always look for a year old and about 10k miles or so.

I got my Frontier for $7k off sticker last june. I'd expect to be able to land any 36k car for 27-28k.

Full-size trucks have more markup than midsize, that probably holds true for suv's too. You can do 10k off msrp on a full-size easy.

Yehhh....mostly cuz it really was just 1 that was that deal haha, so technically not lying

And yes that is the best tactic for getting someone in, and the best one you want, because they obviously came looking to BUY a car.....they never know what car they even came for when done with them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

wrong....

every 1,000= roughly $20 in payment(60 mo terms)

and for the OP, there are websites that u can look up exactly what invoice is on a car such as edmunds.com

Edit: and from there you can find exactly what cash bach/rebate is on a car... Also all car companies have cash sent to them by the manufactuers (usually 3%-5% of the invoice of a car)

4x2 base model?
nah its the premier AWD, has everything but navigation and power running board and power third row seat.

ya we went to the jeep dealer ship with the news paper in hand, and they guy said that exact thing. he told us the the paper is garbage and you have to be able to get every incentive possible to get that price and that there would only be one of them.

that's what i was getting at, i mean if we knew that price we could deal some more. and its 0 down
