How much MDF needs to be around the speaker on the mounting side of a box?

I am looking to make a downfiring box for a single 10" sub for the back of my Jeep Wrangler. I don't have the dimensions of the area available to work with yet (planning to measure tomorrow in the daylight). I think I've worked out a workable design, but it's only around 11" on the bottom depth where I'll be mounting the sub. Do I need more support area for the sub, or am I ok as long as it fits in the box? Thanks!

You'll be fine with 11" of baffle but make sure you don't drive any nails/screws through the baffle where the driver will be mounted, because the MDF will split and become weak.

Cool. The baffle or panel the speaker will be mounted to is going to be roughly 16.5x11 if that helps. So just keep the screws away from where the sub is going to be mounted?
