This is an extremely vague question, there are many variables, and a **** load of answers......

i had a pyrmid amp i got for free. it said 1600w on it. but when i looked up the actual rms power it was like 135x2

Depends on what you spend for the amp

Like a sundown amp in MOST cases is underrated (not sure of any where it isnt but I know someone on CA would prove me wrong)

on the other hand a new sony xplode amp from walmart has astronomical ratings.

Good indicator for cheaper amps are the fuses on em.

So if you find an amp that claims 1000w+ and has a single 30A fuse on it, be realistic.

For reference at 12v:

10A = 120w(beyond max)

20A = 240w etc...

If your looking for true 1000w, aim for 100A+ worth of fuses on it. 100A is 1200w, and thats beyond what should be coming out of it. Keep in mind thats still low, but you'll get the idea.

If your looking for true 1000w, aim for 100A+ worth of fuses on it. 100A is 1200w, and thats beyond what should be coming out of it. Keep in mind thats still low, but you'll get the idea.

You also need to account for efficiency, a class d is around 80% so that 100A fuse x 12 volts x .8= about 960 watts

a class AB is about 40-55% so 100A x 12v x .5= about 600watts

what about a Power acoustic a3000db underrated or overrated sonic says it puts out 1800wrms at 2ohms just wondering what it realy puts out at 2 ohms thire is no exteranal fuses so the fuse method dont work
