How is it that PPI gets a bad name?

I know they were bought out by Directed but so was orion...Everyone seems to still like orion ok. But PPI everyone seems to dislilke mainly b/c they were bought out...Whats the deal with that?

i know alot of people dont like the way the amps look! i think theyre pretty ugly! may not be the main reason, but its certainly high up there.

Put one of the old-school 250 HCCAs up against one of those 250 HCCA G5 (or whatever they're called now) and there's simply no comparison outside of they both carry the Orion symbol and have HCCA across the chassis.

Worlds apart as far as build-quality is concerned...

Arent new amps generally more efficient? You know for those of us who need to run 1500+ watts class D and 300+ watts class A/B off our stock 140 amp alternators???

The technology may be better but the build quality and components are no where near what they were in the early 90's. back then PP, Orion, PG, ADS, RF didn't seem to give a **** about trying to supersize and werent sparing expense on components unlike now where they watch every penny spent that goes into an amplifier. **** phoenix gold used gold plated circuit boards just because they could. No good brand would trust their production to overseas manufacturing to save money. The good **** was always designed, built and inspected right in house.

And class D may be more efficient but no so called true audiophile would use one wether 1995 or 2005 due to their high distortion characteristics and subsequent restricted duty to sub frequencies. AB amps are every bit as inefficient as they ever were.
