Just for kicks.
I have an 07 accord coupe and the stock system is dece. Radio sounds good and the 6 disc in dash is nice. It has a decent sound stage and sounds really cool with all the digital effects of new age radio. What are the doing to FM stations to give those digital effects btw? My buddy said they are doing something new to broadcasting, but I just think that is all in studio work and the only way to get a better signal is getting HD radio. But anyway, so sounds good and have been planning an install for a while, but the main thing I want to do to this car is an extensive sound deadening project with the works using MLV and others. I had a plan to get the best sound out of factory head unit as possible, but thought that would be stupid to go all out on sound dampening and not spend the lil extra time to wire in an amp. I just had my spring break and thought with my extra free time I would start with the project. I picked up 40 sq feet of hushmat from my local dealer and some friends and I ripped it apart and got into it. I probably used maybe 10-15 sq feet and got the doors, both outer and inner door skin concentrating around the speaker, and really hit my rear deck which has 2 6x9's. I covered up as many holes as I could and added a lot of mass especially around the speakers again. I didn't expect too much from the work, but dang did it open a lot of bass up and some midbass too from the doors. Those 6x9's kick now and all my audio buddies were impressed. Stock power and it'll shake your seat and have even heard some notes, I would say around 100 hz that hit accurately. If you don't think sound dampening is worth it, think again as this should be your first step especially if you have 6x9s in a tinny rear deck.
So if you were to build a stock power system what would you do for the best sound you desire?
My list would be:
-Big 3: get the most out of my deck as I could //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
-full sound deaden with baffles around speakers. Add MLV and CCF if I had the time, money, and patience for the project to decrease road noise, but extensive CLD's would be a must. Even add window deflectors to decrease wind noise?
-Run an active cross-over with 8ga power. Would speaker wire size matter if its carrying such little power?
-Run an eq to fine tune the little power I had
-nicest high efficiency speaks I could find with components up front.
-Play from high quality sources only; CD's and USB matched ipod
-Could go full processor if you wanted, but that would be too much for my budget and likings.
Honestly from the little I've done I could see it sounding dam nice. Baffles on my speakers are next and that will only open up more frequencies. With a fully sound deadened car as I intend, I could see it rivaling my previous 500 watt system. Let's hear your build and the logic behind each step/component.
