How exactly do I find out what is best for my sub(s)? My box now is wrong I think..

Based on the opinions of a few when I have mentioned my setup, I think I am using a bad box for my sub, and for SQ. When I got it I WinISD'd it and just made a box with the tuning I wanted and made a port to match. It is tuned around 30-31hz right now with 3.65 cu ft exterior volume 3/4" MDF. The sub is a 15" RE SRx. I find it a little sloppy TBH. I am giving it 600 and it is made for around 300.

Specs are:

15"

Electrical Q Value -Qes: 0.45

Mechanical Q Value -Qms: 4.87

Total Speaker Q Value -Qts: 0.41

Free Air Resonance -Fs: 23 Hz

Equivalent Compliance -Vas: 203 liters

One-Way, Linear Excursion -Xmax: 18 mm

Efficiency -SPL 1W/1m: 87.6 dB SPL

Effective Piston Area -Sd: 810 cm^2

DC Resistance -Re: 1.8 ohm

Nominal Impedance -Znom: Dual 2/4 ohm

Thermal Power Handling -Pe: 300 W

Force Factor -Bl: 14.35

Here is my options. First off I want a smaller box. Alot of my trunk is gone. Another thing is I have an IDENTICAL sub sitting in a box brand new I didn't use since I thought one was enough. But now that I want to go sealed I am thinking I am going to use 2, but the wiring means I can only give them both 400 instead of one 600 (my amp isnt 1 ohm stable).

So in the end here is what I got and what I want; better SQ than now - (I really want smaller subs tbh but that is hard to find someone to trade 15's here in Ontario, everyone wants piece of crap best buy subs instead)

Want to keep box at maximum 1.5-2 cu ft for 1, or 3 cu ft for 2.

They are dual 4 ohm subs, and my amp is an Alpine MRD-650 so 400@4 600@2

What do you think is my best bet?

Sealed could flatten out your response curve and can allow you to save some room, get some punch. Very simple to make and design.

Ported can be made to tighten up and can be flat. Though takes more design work.

Using the 2 in the sealed application shouldn't be a problem. Worst case scenario, you don't like it and you're out ~$30 in MDF costs.

*Edited for carelessness*

Surface area is doubled. So that's +3db. Sealed instead of ported, -3db. Less power probably -2db.

Overall it may be somewhat quieter (2db) though it will also move more air.

Shouldn't be a very noticeable difference in output.

All db calculations are rough approximates. But you get the idea //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Should I even run two? I have my bass down all the time anyways. Maybe I should just stick to my one at 600 rms but run it in 1.5cu ft sealed box. TBH all I am looking for is the most realistic frequency response in the smallest possible enclosure. My sub now makes ALOT of noise at high volumes (port noise is loud)
