How does the Type R stand up?

Sorry for such a broad first post, but how does the Alpine Type R (2003 model) compare to other subs? How does it stand in the JL line-up, close to the W3 or W0? I'm thinking about upgrading in the future and want to know what to look for.

All brands (MTX, Kicker, JL, Adire, RE, etc.) will be greatly appreciated.

tell the poeple here what your looking for in your sub

how much space u got?

spl/sq?

power?

vehicle?

pricerange?

etc... give as much info as u can, youll get a lot of good input

I have a MRD-M501 (550w rms x 1) running the Type R's now. I was thinking about getting another one (really like the amp) and getting 2 subs that are about 500w rms each. I probably wouldnt want to go above $800 for the amp and 2 subs. I'm looking for something that has good sound quality and can get lound at the same time.

PS- This forum is 100x better than CarAudioForums.com. Yall actually care here, there, they just want to pick on people!

They are in the leauge of the Kicker CVRS(Type r has much better sq though), a little better than the AA Atlas, better than diamond cm3... I've heard all those in the same box so thats pretty accurate to me.

???? Mass Production speaker???? AH YA DUDE, go play with your legos.

Are you looking at the 2005 Type R? These are more like in the middle of a JL W3v2- W6v2 the power handling is 500 RMS for each one. They have taken alot for the Type X and put into the Type R for 2005. If what you have now sounds good these will sound outstanding. The 2003 model dosen't compare at all with the 2005 Type R. This are power hungry so you will need to get that second amp. They are a SQ sub but they have alot of SPL with that. Compared to the Kicker and the others, they look like they were made in a garage. Depending on what you really are looking for and need you may only need one of these new 2005 Type R's to replace what you have now. By the way all speakers that your looking at are mass produced.

Price on these is around $200 ea for a 12", Mom and Pop shops sell them for about $170 ea. Alittle more than the Kicker but once you compare the two, you'll know what I'm taking about.
