how do you tune an amp for best quality?

hello i have a kicker kx 1200.1 amp by kicker. its powering a 15 inch l7 by kicker. it has a gain,bass boost, and x-over frequency knob on the amp.

my Head unit is a pioneer dehp4000ub (upgrading...somedayy)

how can i tune it so it wont ruin/blow anything in the system?

set the gain to either to match the preout voltage on the hu, or with a dmm to the rms of the sub.

turn the bass boost off,

and put you lpf to 80-100

the bass boost on the HU or the amp? what about the x-over freq on the amp?

either are best left off, but the one on the amp will do more damage, and the LPF is the crossover freq, set it at 80-100 hz

No it should sound good and get plenty loud as long as your amp has enough power.

bass boost doesnt work like most people think it does, it actually only increases bass at on a very small frequency band, which adds a large peak to your response curve which will actually make the system sound much worse.

just make sure that what is on your headunit is a bass boost and not a subwoofer control.

i know the bassboost is from a negative number,past 0 to positive numbers, right? whats the difference?

I set my amp using a DMM with no bass boost or any bass enhancements from the deck and my stuff sounds great. Just do like the other people said and you'll be fine.
