how do you resize pics for mac?

i can resize the pics using my photoshop, but everytime i try and load something into my aim or avatar, it says it must be less than 7k. how do i fix this?

Image>image size>

Then change the pixles, make sure the scale styles is checked, that will keep the image perportional
