How do you put wooden dowels in a box?

First box I made, I had put the dowels in after the box was fully built. I just put the dowels in as straight as I could and I put glue all over/around the ends and i guess it worked... I haven't looked inside the box since I put the sub in. But I was thinking there might be a better way to do it? How do you guys do it?

They get put in as the box building progresses.
But how do you put them in? Do you do it how I said I did it in the OP? I've only built 2 boxes so far and I'm building another one this weekend that's why I'm asking.

Do you mean secure them in place? drywall screws, bolts, etc. Wood glue of course.

I mean...how else would you put them in? Cut the desired length and put them wherever necessary.

What I am concerned with is just how well the glue works. Say you have two sides of the box you want to brace. You put glue on each side of the dowel. By the time you wedge it in between the sides of the box, is there even enough glue left of the contact point?

glue the spot before sliding in the dowel instead of just relying on the glue on the dowel...

Yeah when I built my first two boxes that's what I did. But it seems like the glue gets pushed away when you wedge the dowel in

Do you all put your dowels directly in the center of each panel? I just read on kicker's website that placing your bracing directly in the center of panels can/will cause the panels to vibrate more and that you should place them a tad off center. Something about panel resonance.
