i have 8 subs rated at 300 rms, im giving them 500rms each, some subs are underrated so it really just depends on the specific subs you are using

I have a Shiva MKIV hooked up to an Orion 1200D @ 4 ohm. I don't know even know how much power I'm sending it. I think it was somewhere between 400 and 600 watts according the manual...
