No need to do the alt casing to the chassis IMO because its already grounded through the motor/alt brackets(in most cases), in which the motor itself will be grounded through the 0 gauge wire you install while doing the Big 3.

a wire from neg on battery to chassie, wire from alt to battery pos, and a wire from chassie to engina block??

Yeap , Just make sure the connection points are sanded down well specifically on the chassis and engine grounds.
