How do I wire my sub for the right ohms?

Ok, the last time I hooked up a system all you had to do is plug everything in. Now i'm hooking up a kicker zx550.2 and not sure what all the ohms should be and why it matters. So I'm gonna run a cvr 15 dvc but I don't have it yet so i'm gonna run a cvr 10 dvc to test it out. So It says my amp is at 4 ohms bridged. Now how should I run the wiring for the sub? I'm not sure if i should run it parralel or in a series. What should the ohms be for the sub? the sub is a dual 2ohm sub. help please

Hey Aloha man and welcome to the forum. You should wire the sub for a 4ohm load for that amp. here's a diagram:

and just hook up the + and - to the bridged terminals on the amp.

Ok so now i got a 12" type r and it is a dvc and 4 ohms on each side. So how do i wire it so thats it is a 4 ohm load to the amp or does it matter?

ok so my manual says "capable of operating at a minimum impedance of 4 ohms when in bridged operation" So should I wire it at 8 ohms? Thank you for your help.

if your sub is a dual 4 ohm sub, you can only wire it into 2 or 8 ohms

if your amp can only handle 4 ohms or more when bridged, if you wire your sub in parallel (2 ohms) it could ruin the amp

if you wire your sub in series (8 ohms) it will get around half the power vs using a sub that can be wired into 4 ohms (a dual 2 ohm sub)

if you wire your sub in series (8 ohms) it will get around half the power)

What if I wire both channel of the subs to both the channels of the amp? the amp can be run at a min. of 2 ohms. If I do that will I still be getting half the power?

You mean powering each voice coil off of a different channel? That is just not a very good idea. Is there is any change in power on one coil, you could end up ruining the sub.

I suggest you sell this amp, and get a proper mono-channel subwoofer amp that will work with the sub you have. If you are using a DVC 4 ohm sub, get one that puts out the subs RMS power at 2 ohms.
