How do i buy a "totaled" car from a salvage yard

I seen a nice *** 2002 mustang at a salvage yard a few days ago, and ive been wanting to buy it. The car was totaled out with some bad rear quarter/bumper damage but still looked good. Im assuming it was totaled out because the airbags deployed (i hear if that happens it has to be totaled?) But has anyone ever bought something that was in a similar predicament to this? Im gonna go sometime and offer the guy 500 bucks for it and see what he thinks. Its the v6 one so i hear theyre not worth parting out either, like the v8 ones.

North Carolina has some very sticky title laws.

There's a reason I'm steering clear of anything with a questionable title...not to mention, you know nothing of its history before it got wrecked.

I'd pass. Too many what-ifs for anything but a parts car.

Id suggest staying away from it. I have an R title accord and it didnt seem hit to bad but you can tell that things just aren't right. At one time I thought "oh wow that would be easy to fix". Ha never turns out that way.

Just my opinion.
