how do dual alts work?

I'm about to help a friend with a dual setup. I'm not concerned about installation but I'm unaware of how to connect the 2nd alt to the computer. The truck has a connector that attaches to the one stock alt but how to you get the signal to the regulator on the 2nd alt? Some sort of jumper connection?

I know on mine, I can get a 5th alt in over my PS pump if i just replace it with a unit meant for a van, with a remote reservoir. And then I get a 6th in place of my AC comp, if I needed to.

Don't connect it to the factory system. Get an internally regulated alternator and wire it separate. I had better voltage running isolated electrical systems then running two high output alternators on the same circuit with my vehicle. PCM control is not great for aftermarket electrical upgrades

I have the same exact suburban. same year same everything. it has a misfire though, need to take it to get fixed. I was originally going to throw my 4 18s in there but I decided to put them in the Tahoe instead. im drunk right now
