how did you choose your career?

my question is for those that have graduated from college, and now pursued a career. while you were attending school what made you choose the career you did? was it someone elses input? what helped you with the decision? are you happy with your job right now, or do some of you wish you had went down another road?

I have always said you should do what makes you happy first, and what makes you rich second. I tell people that they should choose a career on what makes them happy and makes them feel good about what they do, should it be flipping burgers or as a big shot CEO of some company, just pick something that makes sense to you.

Mine just happened.

I started at the very bottom and have been working my way up. I don't know if finding your lifes work is something you know from the get go or something you find in hindsight.

When it comes to long term employment I don't think that instant gratification is the answer. A lot of your employment is exactly what you make of it. If you can find a way to keep your attitude in check towards your work you will be square.

Can't stand my current job, took it because I didn't want to be hunting for a job during my last semester at school. Turned out people basically had their pick of the crop for jobs before they graduated and if they didn't have a job when they graduated it was only due to their choice.

So far I have just fallen into all my positions, made the decision on my major in like 5 minutes at the office (don't totally regret it.) Then as above fell into my current job, don't get me wrong for someone else this would be a great job, don't really have to do jack and get paid fairly decently with good benefits but office is just not for me.

You do have to find what your passionate at and what you can enjoy doing and go for it. Just don't let it pass you by, you could spend your entire life looking for a career, start by finding yourself a job and then make a career out of it.

I picked mine by seeing what my parents do, where they came from and where they are at now, and deiceded to get a job there. love my job and get paid pretty decent... plenty of oppertunities(sp) for advancement and GREAT benifits... that and I never (well practially) have to worry about getting laid off.

Well my career has just begun but i know I will love it

Im half draftsman/engineer

I work right now in a gas plant and the money is great:greedy:

but I really realyl enjoy my job. We get alot done and we have alot of fun.

I get to work in the office 70% of the time and the other 30 is divided into working in the field, making plans, and mettings

I really love planning projects ,seeing them being built, and knowing they will be there for a long time.

Its a great feeling.

Im not a full blown engineer but I wouldnt want to be. The money is better but those guys are always stressed and have deadlines.
