how can you test a sub

I have a 10W6 wired @3 Ohms and when I test it with a DMM it reads 2.9 Ohms. When I carefully push the cone in, I don't hear any scratching sounds at all. But when I hook it up to my new 500/1 it don't pound. I have to crank up the boost to +7 to get any bump. A 10W6 with a 500/1 should be thumping hard, so is it possible that the sub is not fully working and if so, is there any other test I can do to see if it's working to it's potential?

id turn the bass boost off, and i never liked setting my gains with a DMM i usually just set it at 3/8 or so, little under 1/2 btw my HU is posed to be 5v, but with music its more like 2.5v

I dont like the DMM method either. To be honest, out of desperation, I shut off the bass boost and turned the gains to half way and it was still weak with rock. Tried two different amps, same result.

I used to have a Pioneer 12" powered by a pioneer 300w amp, and rock hit harder then this JL. Thats why I think something is wrong.

hmmm....doesn't sound right. i would recheck all the settings on your deck and amp. where you at in ohio?

check the woofer wiring just to make sure its not wired to 12 ohms?

now I changed the JL specs of the box (width, height, depth) but I have the cubic feet to JL specs.

Sounds like you have it wired wrong. Just double check even if your positive that it's right because if all your settings are correct and your equipment is in good condition it should thump.

If everything is still set up right and its not working, maybe try a friends amp on the sub and see if it works.
