Okay...

I have a JL 450/4 amp pushing 4 sets of component speakers in my F-150 truck. The amp is located under the rear bench.....

Today, I had the radio turned up pretty loud --- probably 3/4 the way up..... I started to smell a "hot" electrical type smell from the rear of the truck........ I turned the radio down and later felt the amp --- It was very hot.

What causes this? Is it lack of air movement or something wired incorrectly? Please help with any advice.

I just don't understand? My friend has the same truck as me and the same amp.....The amp is even located in the same spot..... He can run his system loud all day and his JL barely breaks a sweat.... Mine is red hot.....

Is it maybe impedance? Oh -- and he doesn't have a fan either

Not exactly sure about the gains......I had a shop install the amp.....
Hmm...that might be the problem(shop) Can you get someone u know to check it for ya? it's not hard at all to do it your self. Read the sticky at the top of this forum section. I would def ask a second opinion about your gains settings.

shops dont always knwo what thier doing, you'd think they would but there are those stories hear and there of stupid employees just turning the gaisn up way high because they think thats how to make it loud....dumb *****
