Homeowners

I have a question for people who own their own homes. If the city where you live decides to do major construction outside your house like adding roads and stuff do they consult you first? Do they need to get permission from the home owners? Because they're doing a bunch of construction where I live and I'm sure it's driving down the property value of the homeowners property. The new roads they set up are causing a ton of traffic outside people's homes and then there's the fact that they cut down a shit ton of trees to make room for it.

Basically my question is the bold part.

Not much you can do about it, holmes. You can't stand in the way of progress.

Best case scenario sees you waiting til all the work is done and them putting up a "noise reducing" fence of some sort.

Sorry about your luck. This is partly why I like to live in the middle of nowhere...

they own the roads you don't....... sorta like the power line tree trimming b@stards that butcher the *** outta my trees...they don't have to ask and leave them looking like total shiit
Fags cut down my dogwood tree last summer. I would've punched the fucker in the mouth had I been home...

I rent so it doesn't affect me except for the fact it takes me longer to get anywhere now so I have to try and do everything in one trip now. I just feel bad for the home owners. City came into the community, disrespected their property values //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

If anything this will be adding value to your home in the long run. Having a nicer street/neighborhood will drive up the value as it will seem better maintained. Construction is short term. I would say most homeowners would be glad that their street is getting taken care of especially if it wasnt in very good shape.

But if there on your property then u have a say if not you'll just have to wait till they finish up
Not really. If they need a portion of your property in order to accomplish whatever it is they're doing, they'll buy it from you. And you pretty much have to sell it. In some cases, if they're taking a substantial portion of your property, they'll buy your home outright...

Depends. If they're simply upgrading the existing road, that's a good thing. If they're putting in a multi-lane highway, or a road with heavy traffic, it can kill your property value. Noone likes living next to a highway...

Yeah they can work on any streets and easments w/o any warning. Depending on state laws they can take your land and pay you fair market value, Which right now with this economy is nothing. My friend recently went through this when they wanted to take his backyard for an off ramp.

When US 119 was built back in the 90's, they bought out entire communities in this area. Entire neighborhoods no longer exist...
