homemade subwoofer cutout?

how do people make homemade speaker or sub cut outs? They make like a cardboard mock up, trace it out, then cut it out, how do they get it perfect? Can I use a ruler? Wtf. help lol

Plunge router with a circle jig works the best.

You can use a ruler(or a compass) and measure out and get your circle drawn and use a jig saw as well.

Forgive my newbness to this, but do you just do have the circumference then put the pencil on the outer piece and "draw" the circle?

find your center of where you want the circle measure your radius thrn drop one side on the center and draw the circle.

Make yourself a homemade compass out of a skinny, long piece of scrap MDF a nail and a pencil. run a nail through one end of the flat MDF stick and measure the radius of the cutout then drill a hole for the pencil at the radius point. then just nail it to where you want your cutout then spin it around and it will have traced a perfect circle

I find the center of the hole and use a paint stirring stick with 2 holes in it, one that screws into the center of the hole and the other screw I let the tip stick out the bottom of the other end where the radius of the circle is so it scratches a groove into the surface of the wood then I spin it all the way around to scribe a circle into the wood. The groove from the scratch helps keep the jigsaw blade in line.

Routers work as well but the bits can wear down fast if you build a lot of boxes and the bits aren't cheap to replace
