Alrighty fellas, just got into the world of a real home theater.

I just recently purchased a 70" Sharp Aqous and i decided i needed to buy a real sound setup

I purchased a Denon 1912 receiver and have some Polk Monitor 60 Series II and a CS2 center channel on the way from NewEgg.

I am undecided on whether to use the 60s as front speakers or get some 70s for the front and use the 60s as surround. Anyways, im looking into a subwoofer. Ive looked at the PSW 505 and it looks decent for the price, but i would imagine i could build a better one than that for the price. Any suggestions on what driver, box design, and or plate amp? I am totally new to the HT world. Any suggestions would be awesome

Yeah, the Dayton seem to be the go-to for good reason. I'm pretty sure Parts Express still has those kits available with sub, box, and plate amp too. Been a little while since I looked at those though. There's also a section on PE that has all kinds of home speaker/sub designs. They list everything from the pieces of wood you have to cut to each individual component on the crossovers. They usually feature them in their flyers.

i 2nd that. browse partsexpress and read reviews. great prices and products.I'd love to have a Dayton Titanic subwoofer.
exactly what I was thinking

I got into HT for a while as well. Started with a Dayton HF 15 on a Bash 300w plate amp. Never even really used it, as it was just too much.

Dropped down to a Dayton HF 8 on the same amp. Still way too much. With the 8 in the same box as the 15 (7 cubes @ 24hz), I could literally move stuff across my desk in the 20hz range and flex the door pretty good. In the end, I just bought a set of Turtle Beach X31s so that I could listen at night and play games without disturbing others.

However much you think you need for a good amount of bass, cut it in half at least. Its awesome to see people do 2 15s and 4 18s and stuff, but I honestly dont see the point. Having a ton of bass is awesome in a car for just listening to music, but when Im just watching TV or a movie, I dont feel like not being able to hear the words because everything is drowned out by bass.

If youre interested, I still have the HF 8. Its just been sitting. Id sell it cheap.

and galactic monkey makes a very good point. when watching a movie, its VERY easy to have too much bass. 99% of the time my bass setting on my amp is less than 10%. when im watching a really good action movie or just want to feel like the building is falling right on top of me i toss it up to ~50%. i only go above that when listening to music.

the dayton 12" powered subs i listed are VERY nice. for the money you cant really beat them and they do a **** good job of adding bass in a compact and efficent package. they even dig pretty low for the cost.

I appreciate the help everyone. I enjoy learning about this stuff.
