Home theater in a box with DVD

Anybody have any opinions on some of the new Home theater systems in a box? I want something simple, yet very nice. Looking to spend between 300-500 bucks. HDMI is a must. I found a Sony system I like but wanted some other input before I pull the trigger.

I dont like any of the tall gaughty front speakers. Just small fronts. Like I said simple yet, has to be nice.

buy a cheap reciever and find some speakers that you like. the "theaters in a box" usually have retarded processing issues, and very limited source control.

I have a DVD/Reciever combo for sale for $100 + shipping. However, it is not HDMI.

Panasonic makes a really nice one for 500 that has HDMI, iPod dock, and wireless rear speakers. I like them more then the sony's.

i bought a home theatre in a box a few years back and still have it and i love it. but when i listen to peoples home theatres that actually put money and time into it they blow mine out of the water.

but mine does what it's supposed to do, which is give me way better sound than the t.v. so i can enjoy my movies and video games much more.

I got this same stereo and it works real nice for being an in the box stereo. Saves a lot of room since I have none.
