I know I know, there's a section for this, but it's not very highly trafficked.

I just have a quick question. I have some old Yamaha RS-A525 surround speakers, they are rated up to 60W. I have had a Pioneer with 100W hooked up to it for a long time, and no problems. I just ordered a VSX-1021 and was just wondering if anybody knows if putting 90W to those are fine.

Alternatively, these are cheap.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Polk Audio R150 Bookshelf speakers at Crutchfield.com

People will answer your question even if you post it in there.

They'll be fine, just change the size of the speaker to small and do not set the bass to high. Also, there I run two of my home set-ups of mainly Yamaha (brought them in Japan). I have noticed the center channel and surround take a little more than rated.

Mod please move to right section.

Great find, the HPM's were designed by engineers Pioneer stole away from JBL, equally good new speakers would cost you a pretty penny. The bigger HPM's are KILLER speakers, but those are very nice!

Do not put a vaccum on those, take a paper towel tube and **** the dust caps back out. I know it's crazy, but it usually works.

Now all you need to do is find a nice old silver face receiver to power those HPM's with, I really like the older Yamaha stuff. Sounds much better than the new stuff!

The dust caps can be replaced. Once they are smashed, the paper is weakened. I buy replacement dust caps from parts express.

To your original question, yea, it is fine to power those speakers.

Realize that for more than 20 years, most receivers rated 90W x 5 only means one channel can produce 90W for one second. This is evident by looking at the UL power draw on the back of the receiver, and taking amplifier efficiency into consideration.

Thanks for the help guys.

How do I install a new dust cap? Pry up the old one and glue the new one down? THanks!

Thanks hope.

Just found out my dad bought these in '79 for over 1500$(overseas) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Edit: It looks pretty hard to replace it on mine, is it essential to the sound?

Get a paper towel tube, put it to your lips, press gently against center cap, and inhale. Sounds odd, but it usually does work.
