As the very few of you who frequent the home audio setup know, I have be struggling trying to develop some type of 3 way DIY setup. I have looked, researched, plotted, and stressed some (who thought something entertaining would also be stressful) I was unsuccessful in getting Dylan to create some crossovers for me, he responded to PMs but is too busy to help. So, here is what I have come up with. I am mainly shooting for good sound in video games and movies. I added comments to say why I chose a particular speaker
Receiver :
Harman Kardon HK3380
The reason I chose this receiver is because it is two-way, as I want.With the ability to upgrade other amps I see fit. It also provided a mechanism for several inputs with a remote to chose between them. The wattage is also what I was looking for. This reciever has everything I wanted at a good price
Crossover:
Dayton 3 way crossover.
I couldn't build one cheaper myself. It is 2nd order (which is blah) I wish I could find one 3rd order that crossed at 500 and 3.5k, but no real luck there.
Woofer:
DAYTON RS225S-8
Very decent for the price. I am thinking of porting it with a 2" @ 40 hz or something. I would really like for it to get much lower, but since my receiver has the capability of adding subs later, it really isn't necessary to go that low at the moment, although I am considering a 10 if you think it can play up to 375.
Midrange :
AURUM CANTUS AC-130F1
Flat between 375 and 3000, very good mid with power handling, ohms, and size I like. I also considered some Seas and Vifas, but they tended to have more breakup at either the upper or lower end
Tweeter:
DAYTON PT2B-8 PLANAR TWEETER
I really like the look of planar tweeters and other isodynamic tweeters. This one had the power handling, crossover frequecy that would work for my app
I welcome any comments or suggestions as I am still new to the home audio world. This who project (including receiver and some accesories) is $533.09 shipped. So I gues you can say that is pretty well close to my budget. My questions are:
a) will this even work?
b) will it sound like a $500 system should?
c) since the mid is not shielded, is there a device I can add to the box to shield magnetic waves?
d) any suggestions will be considered, I am not really looking HTIB, as I want to say I actually put some thought behind the drivers, not thought behind driving my *** out to best buy.
