Holiday Gift For Everyone!

no
goob should get a new M5 or M6... because thats what real men drive... come on goob, do it for us
That definately is an M3, the M5 doesn't have those characteristic side vents... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

Fascinatingly I do agree with you on something, M5 > E55... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i was under the impression he was asking if an e55 was an m3. like an e36 m3 or e46 m3

the m5 is great if you dont mind going through hella menus to do everything. i'd put up with it though

In the future if you are going to dog one of my suggestions, please use facts or your opinion to back it up. Horrible idea isnt a good answer.

it was mostly a sarcastic poke, that's why it was so short ;]

however, if i was to say a reason NOT to give them that right... so many people would temporarily banned all the time... most of the mods would abuse that power to at least some extent, or so it is my opinion from the little i know of the ones i know.

If this forum got the disciplin of the Honda-Tech forum.. it would be a bunch better.

The users over there use the "report this post" button on a hourly basis. Of course there are twice as many moderators, but if more posts were deleted that could be answered by just reading the stickies..

Things can calm down here, it would just require EVERYONES help and not just the mods. Obviously they won't catch every wrong post or derogatory remark, but if some one reports the post.. they can fix it.

The point system can be start two different ways. You could use it as a disciplinary system and start everyone off at 100%. For each TOS violation, that user can be docked up to 5% at a time (1% increments would be standard).

The other option is to go through the member list and assign a certain amount of point to each user that has been here a while. Or you could start everyone at zero. This is going to be ultimately harder to determine the specific amount of knowledge each person has. Who will be assigning the points? Goob? Are you here enough to do that for EVERY user on this board?

Just my thoughts.

i dont like the 100% thing on honda tech at all. it dosen't promote good posts, it simply discourages shitty ones. i think a carma system would be better. it lets the users rank eachother which kind of goes along with the voting for a mod thing

Lol...I tried being strict...apparently people didn't like that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
i know the feeling, lack of authority and power is the main problem.

however, if i was to say a reason NOT to give them that right... so many people would temporarily banned all the time... most of the mods would abuse that power to at least some extent, or so it is my opinion from the little i know of the ones i know.
the point of a temporary ban would be to prevent such instances like bassmaster9000 or the many other azzhats the forum tends to attract recently not jus temp ban anyone for any reason they see fit. And if any such action would be enacted i firmly believe it would definatly need the approval of at least 3 mods.

Therein lies the problem, though, Goddy...
I'll not get into a flaming war in a thread that Goob and most of the moderators are trying very hard to keep in line so without specifying anything I'll just say that there are mods who would temp-ban someone for "any reason they see fit" if the option were open to them.

Take some recent happenings for example:

Someone (hereafter referred to as 'Offender') says the wrong thing to the wrong mod at the wrong time....one or more mods then go on a mission to mass-delete every post ever made by said offender. While I take no issue with the fact that the posts where Offender manages to get on the wrong side of a mod (such as when whoever it was started cursing at ss3079 recently) disappear but is it truly justified to eliminate every single post Offender ever made? I am including any possible posts that were ON topic, in the CORRECT sections, etc etc etc otherwise following the CA.com TOS. Is a single or even multiple infractions a good reason to delete every single post a user ever made.....just for a temporary lapse of judgement that lasts only a little while or even an extended period?

If it (a temp-ban) required more than a single mod or even two to activate then I could see a potential usefulness....but if it were able to be enacted by a single mod then it allows too much room for abuse to really be a worthy utility in the long run.

i agree with you there i dont think any single mod should have that much power, (wont get into that issue again) but i think if its something that is ban worthy and is agreed upon by 3 or more mods and requires them to sign off on it then i see no prob. with it.

Thats exactly what i meant. Thank you.

That's our method of action until we receive a reputation point system or other means of moderation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Don't even bother thinking that I'd be banning people left and right - it doesn't work like that, sorry!

I think a lot of people are confused about the temp-ban thing.

I'm sure the system would work similar to the following.

Clear violation of the TOS and two+ mods agree, set up the temp-ban.

A thread would be started in the Backroom discussing the issue. Beer would be consumed.

If the violation isn't as bad as once thought and doesn't justify a ban, remove the ban.

Depending on how minor or bad the offence is, set a time limit.

Keep in mind, the Administrator (with his unbiased view) will ALWAYS have the final say.

I'd also like to see people be banned from just the Classifieds section, but one step at a time.

If the temp-ban procedure doesn't work similar to that, I don't want it.
