HO drops to 12 v at idle?

I just installed a 200 amp ohio gen altenatator in my 04 grand prix, did all 1/0 gage wiring threw out the engin, but everytime it goes down to idle the voltage goes down to 12-13. once I press the gas a bit it goes right back up though, is there anything I could do about this?

A different pulley to spin it up a little higher at idle? Did you call ohio gen yet?

Alt isn't charging at idle, it's a common occurence with high output alternators. Mine did the same thing until I set the idle speed a little higher.

no, i thought it would be a direct replacement. so everything else is stock

just put a smaller pully on the alternator.

hmm then i have to find one of those, and then a new belt.

maybe not a new belt...because your tensioner may be able to take the slack

as for the pulley, an autoparts store that sell alty's would have some extra's laying round...at least mine did..

I'd call ohio gen first thing before I went throwin another pulley on it. See what they have to say and make sure a smaller pulley won't cause the alt any problems.

i don't know if it is possible to over rev an alty....is it? i ran one on a smaller pulley for years w/ no problems

I would definately call OG... they probably sent you the smallest pulley they have. Most high amp alts have poor idle output. I usually recommend 200A alts that can still do 125-140A at idle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
