HO alt for carolla, small cars, etc

some other things to consider if you are going for fuel efficiency, everything you are talking about doing is going to bring that down. HO alt needs more HP to turn, eating gas. Large subs and boxes = weight, eating gas.

And the car becomes a DOG. LOL. Man. My car was slow to start with. Now it's seriously slow.

I knew a guy who put a cadillac alt on his 3 banger geo metro and almost couldnt pull up a hill. It took half the power of the motor just to turn the alt.
LOL. well. My jetta can still pull up a hill. So at least it isn't that bad.

Although. I was on a steep hill during winter. And thanks to my tires being almost out of tread. Pulling out of the hill on the green light resulted in me having to spin the chit out of the front tires to get going. Gotta love having all that weight in the rear on FWD.

then washer it up! LOL. Alternators been in the car for almost a year now with the washers and 0 problems. And my engine shakes like BIRCH because I have a bad motor mount.
Were you looking for 1 alternator or 2 for the corolla?

nice.. lol i was hoping i could just get a half *** beefy one in there and only have to do one. if i have to do two, if space even allows it, i will

The car is an 02 Chrysler Concorde Limited 3.5 V6. When I called around I believe all I could find was 200-250 amp units. Nate called it a universal alt. It was a bit more work, and it took a couple times of taking everything apart to get it lined up right with space issues I was having, but it was worth it in the end. I usually don't drop more than .5 volt on music at cruising speed running 5k. Pretty sure Nate underrated the alt quite a bit, because I saw a youtube video of the same alt putting out over 350 amps hot. I do not have a clamp or load tester to see exactly what mine does though.
over 350 hot? holy shit.

lulz, i start off at 20 mpg with my silverado... im in no hurry to go anywhere fast i just want an audio monster. id much rather start off with 43 mpg, wall it off, etc.. and still get 30 mpgs all day.

hahaha thats funny, i only drive back and forth to school, dallas to oklahoma, not a **** hill anywhere around here lol..

Have a 93 Corolla and it's a MONSTER for lows. Seems like it's literally built for them.. however getting loud is a task. If I wanted to I could pop a 50 off with a couple 12s sealed off from the trunk but I've gone a bunch of different routes personally. Single 12", 15" & 18" in a ported on 1500-2k, (2) 8", 10" and 12" in a ported on 3k, 4 10" on 3k in a 4th order. All of which just played lows like you wouldn't believe.

Now onto the shitty part.. unless you get a motor where you can fit an adapter and throw something worth having as far as an alternator goes.. you're gonna get stuck. I can't get anything larger than 180a and it costs more than most 300a alternators. While this isn't a deal buster.. it's just a bitch. You'd be better off getting an old Chevy or something if you're looking to really whip it's *** and save a little gas. Just my 2 cents.

Get an MK3 volkswagen with a 2.0 4cyl or a mk2 vw with a 1.8 4cyl like me :)
I've proven that you can fit 2 alternators. Hell. You could have have my steel plates. and Dominick at iraggi can tell you what alternator bolts up to the a/c spot.

Well. I guess don't lose the a/c. When I was texas I always just had the window down. I hate a/c. Makes me feel sick.

Idk. Whatever years you like. If you like them at all. Everyone has there own tastes.

My favorite generation is the mk2. Its like 1985-1992. Then the mk3 is I think 1993- 1999.

Any of the 4cyl models leave tons of engine space for a 400 amp alternator from any company.

And if you get the tdi model (turbo diesel) they get 47mpg combined city/hwy

The gas model gets about 30 average.

Well. I got my 1991 jetta as my first car for winter beater when I was 17. Didn't know jack about fixing stuff. But thanks to the bentley repair manual. I haven't taken the car to a friend of mine for repairs in 3 years because I do everything myself now. Except tire changes and alignments.

I did the headgasket in 5 hours last year. Start to finish.

The parts are insanely cheap. The cars are abundant in manual (I hate automatic) and there is a large aftermarket parts base for them.

What you should do is just take a trip to a auto salvage yard. Look at a bunch of 4cyl cars that you like and get an idea of if you can fit a big alternator. And then go out and look for the car you like working. That's what I would do.

I hear ya on the AC, but shiet, when its 110 I gotta have something besides the subs to keep me cool. Hahaha

But Ill take a look and see what I think of them

Junkyard is a very good idea as well

Last time I visited texas was in 2009 or 2010. It was was 105 every day for the week I was there. I didn't need the a/c. But everyones different. I work at a foundry. And all the guys in the summer get mad at me because they all compllain that's it's too hot. And I never say it is.

Last year they literally called me a liar. I kept telling them texas was hotter. Its funny too because they all love the cold (its a wisconson thing) and I complain non stop about the cold and never leave my house during the winter.

Yeah everyone has there own personal preferences. You may or may not like the VW's. But going to a junk yard is a good idea. You can peak under the hoods and see what you got to work with on a car you like.

I am definitely not imperviious to the heat. I wear nothing by shorts and a tshirt in the summer. But you should see me in the winter. I am such a baby.

I honestly. Honestly. Can't imagine playing football in the texas/oklahoma heat. I don't think I could do it.
