So I have acquired 2 tc-9 motors and I'm not quite sure what to do with them right now. I would really like to have them built into 18's, but I drive a civic, they wouldn't fit inside:(. Nor would 2 15's without making the box inside the trunk. Part of me says "you'll never get a vehicle that will hold 2 18's like u want, just sell the motors off." But that'd make me sad too. Another option is to just save them for another time, but I dunno if parts for rebuilds might run out in a few years (had this issue with my old RF power hx2). All suggestions are appreciated.

What does that mean exactly?
The gap in the motor is only about 1.75". An 18" sub needs a good amount of throw for peak performance. if you throw too much power to it all you will hea is the coil trying to escape through the back plate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

interesting, so how much power would cause this? could spacers be used to heighten the sub so that this is not an issue???

An 18" sub doesn't need anymore excursion than any other sized sub for peak performance. I assume you are kidding around here.

oh it'll work. just not as well. i would be willing to bet a 15" tc9 would be louder.
larger sizes will always win, the issue is not the SPL, but Q. The 18" TC9's creeps up to around 0.5 depending on softparts so they tend to prefer sealed boxes or very very large ported boxes if you want linear frequency response. The Soundsplinter RL-p 18 is a good example, but it was made with an extra magnet over the versions in this thread so it has more B and its Q is in the 0.4's again.
