You were decently on with the answer. I am just giving you shit. It has to do with magnetic domains and their alignment versus them being random. But at the deepest level it does have to do with electron spin. Electrons spin and move creating a current surrounding an atom. All flowing current create a magnetic field following the right hand rule. If you align the currents, the magnetic fields add up to a larger field. Its awesome stuff to study.I never said it was a hard science. It is a analytical career path that society in general has chosen to be a valuable asset to have people studying though.
