High pass/Low pass filters- What do they mean?

I've been playing around with installing my amp and I think I've over-thought things to the point that I am confused.

Could you please explain to me what the setting on a High Pass filter does? I think that it means that any frequency over the set level will not pass through the speaker. Is this correct?

On the same note, what about the Low Pass Filter? I think it means that frequencies below the setting will not be played through the speaker? Is this correct as well?

nope, complete opposite for both

hpf lets all frequencies above the set level play

lpf lets all frequencies below the set level play
