High output alternators?

seems like a legit question..

Only thing I can think of is that different vehicles require different amperage to run just the stock electronics and that difference could warrant the need for a larger alt housing and thus not fitting on the 'one-size fits all' mounting.

just my thoughts.

 
This may seem like a dumb question, but is the only reason that all cars have different alts is because of the mounting situation? in theory, if all mounts were the same, wouldn't alts be one size fits all?
That's like asking why cars have different engines. There's more variables for engines obviously, but it really comes down to 2 different things: space limitations and power requirements. Coming from a company standpoint, why put a bigger alt in than the car requires? Just wasting money. It's not a selling point for 99% of the population.

If you're talking strictly about mounting brackets, well that's due to the engine it's going on. Some brackets don't fit on some engines, some brackets aren't strong enough for others, there's probably a whole list of reasons. Car manufacturers around the world are not going to standardize something like this.

 
with the right work any alt can go on just about any car. the 300 amp from ohio gen thats is in my tib is actually from a Chrysler
Sorry bro, not buying that. Not unless you can post pics of you getting an alt from an F-350 in your car.
