Just to give you an idea, my friend has 2 15L7s in a prefab like yours, on a hifonics brutus elite 2100 which is hifonics best line and does close to its rated 2100 watts. I have a single 10" sundown zv4 in a custom ported box on a soundqubed 2200 watt amp, this amp cost $430 new. Im louder than him.

Your box is 4.93 cubic ft net. That means BEFORE port and sub displacement. Yea its the bare minimum kicker recommends for those subs so no its not up to par...

So is it the box, subs, or the amp that makes his system so much worse than yours? I'm very lost. I thought kickers were loud, and though my amp is not 3200 watts RMS it will still give me what I need, right? So is his box the failure?

Kickers can be loud but they will only be loud in a very narrow bandwidth, and they are still not that loud. Your amp will be lucky to do 1500. That box is about 2.5 cubes to small also. Displacement makes output. You have cone area but no motor force or excurrsion. You have one of the 3 keys to loud.

Don't consider it a failure, just a lesson learned. You could sell that prefab and get a box built, or build it yourself and get the most out of your subs. What you're being told is that there's better gear out there that you would have spent the same or even less that would get you better results.

Its the box AND subs a subwoofer isnt only a magnet and cone, theres alot that makes a subwoofer bad and good and kciker is made of mostly bad. For the average joe/consumer sure its "loud" but as you can see with my example louder can be had with less if its the correct less. Your amp will barely give you what you need youll be pushing its limits to give you the power those subs want. But just enjoy what you have man it is what it is and im sure youll be happy, just dont listen to a REAL system or go to any competitions because youll just hate yourself for buying what you did lol

They can get loud but it requires big boxes and more power than they are rated for and there is no way of telling how much over rated they can take. Just get like a 6-7 cubic foot box and run them on 1500 rms for a few months. Then if you ever get a better quality amp you can run them at 1k ea. You will need to upgrade your alternator though or you'll end up burning it up. Also make sure you set your gain/level with a dmm and DO NOT TURN THE BASS BOOST ALL THE WAY UP.

I'm not trying to argue but by my calculations, my box is slightly over 6 cubic ft (height x weight x depth/1728). Is my formula/calculations off? If not, then is the box ok?

You forgot wood thickness
