Hifonics S15L7

what kinda box is it in? could be that your box is being super eficient and even though your giving it a nice ammount of power, since its so efficient the power is too much for it. tell us what box its in.

edit: let me clear that up. if you got a super efficient ported box design, then its very well could be that you are bottoming out the sub. if its a sealed box, then thats most likely not the problem due to their effieciency.

a sealed box, if you don't mind could you please explain what you just said? I didn't really understand.
lol i thought so. i reread my post and i was like "wtf did i just write" haha. ok what i meant was that with a ported box, the bigger you make it, the easier it is for the sub to move with less power. thats why you see people getting full xmax out of a sub with only like 700 watts even though the sub is rated at 1500 or whatever. but you said its sealed so that aint it. could it be an air leak, or can you phyisically see the sub move to where it looks like it shouldnt?

here is an example of a box being more efficient. both subs are the 12 inch l7's with 1000 watts. the gray one is in a 4 cu ft box and the orange is in a 10 cu ft box. as you can see, the orange one has the same power yet its excursion is a lot greater do to the box. this means i can use less power in that 10 cu ft box to get the same excursion as in the 5 cu ft box.

Yea I can see it, it looks like it's distorting which is what i thought it was but I don't understand howcome it gets louder and still doesn't distort with 450 watts and won't get near that loud without distorting with 1500 watts.

i really dont know what to tell you. i hope someone else can solve this shit for you. sorry man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif only thing i can think of is your gain bein set wrong. the hifonics gain goes backwards than most amps. 9v being the lowest and .2 being the highest. maybe you thinking its being turned 1/4 of the way up is all actuality is 1/4 from the highest setting.

It's not a noise that is coming from something inside. It's like it's distorting and the plastic part on the front makes a noise like it is being pushed out too much.

it's been doing it but I never really noticed it until I turned it up louder than usual. But I still don't get why it won't get louder @1500 watts before it distorts than it will @450 and not distort.

me either, i was just thinkin that if the amp is wacked out then its possible that it would just go crazy and 1 ohm and just distort but not really produce real bass, but i have no clue man. you got a friend with another 1 ohm stable amp around 1500 watts? i think its time for the elimination game. try your sub with a different 1500 watt amp, if it still does it then its your sub, if not then it could be your amp.
