Hifonics S15L7

Ok I had a S15L7 hooked up with 1ohm to a Brutus BX1500D well I had the gain on a little less than a quarter of the way up. Well I had everything else but I think subsonic turned all the way down. Well when I turn my system up it started to make a weird noise like it was flexing alot and you could here it do that. I didn't think it would hurt it but I didn't like that sound. So I wired it so give out 450 watts and it hits harder than it did without making that weird noise and the gain is turned exactly to a quarter of the way up. Well I have heard people on here that have had their gain turned almost half way up. Did I do something wrong because if mine was turned more than halfway up it would annoy the hell out of me with that noise.

Don't worry about "other peoples" gain settings. They either 1) have a different source unit (CD player) than you, which has a different preout voltage, or 2) didn't set their gain correctly. Follow the gain setting tutorial sticky'd in the Amplifier section, set your gain correctly, and then never worry about it again (unless you change out your headunit)

yea, dont know wheather its a dual 2 or 4 but if you wired it up for a final 1 ohm load (parrallel with a dual 2 sub) then 1500 (or whatever the bx1500 puts out) is too much for the sub. if its a dual 4, wire it to 2 ohms and you should be straight IF your careful with your gains. the sub is 750 rms i belive, and the hifonics supposedly doesnt put out 1000 at 2 ohms so you should be safe. if its a dual 2 then i dont know what you would do. gotta get a different amp unless you wanna run that little power to the l7

15" L7 is 1000watts rms, u were probaly getting like 1200-1300 watts out of ur brutus, id say u were probaly okay, is it a ported or sealed box? why do u want to turn ur gain half way up anyhow? just set it right and dont worry about.
well if its 1000 watts rms then you should of been ok. 1300 or whatever the brutus puts out isnt bad at all. i dont know, just make sure your gain is all good. also did you break in the sub? i know squeak's gonna say dont worry about it, and ill agree, but i heard that kicker actually DOES reccomend that you break in their l5 and l7 subs. ask polecat for clarification.

I didn't say I wanted to turn it half way up. I had it at less than a quarter up, and it was making this weird noise like it was flexing and you could here it. Well some said theirs were set at half way or more and if I did that it would sound like crap. I was just wondering if maybe I did something wrong.

Its cool I don't mind repeating myself, I'm not sure if I said it or not anyway. Umm it dual 2ohm I had it wired like I had the two negatives wired together and the two positives together and then from one of the postives to the amp and one of the negatives to the amp so that there were two wires on 1 of the postives on the amp and 1 of the negatives.

so from amp + to one + on sub and then to the oter + on the sub right? and for negative the same correct? just makin sure cause you didnt say whether the +'s went to the + ont he amp you just said you connected it. not tryin to make you sound dumb, i just dont want to assume anything.

Its fine man I'm no expert so it's cool as long as your helping me I appreciate it a ton. Ok so I have + on the sub to + on the sub----then - on the sub to - on the sub---- then I have one of the +'s on the sub to on of the +'s on the amp----then one of the -'s on the sub to one of the -'s on the amp.

yup. so it was definatly wired for 1 ohm. you had it perfectly wired. i really dont know why it was makin that sound. just try and make sure the gain is set right. you said you had it for a month, so did the noise jsut start now? or has it been like that before?

It would happen when I turned it up. I have heard it on a friends system too. It sounds almost the plastic is being pushed too far and making a strange noise. It doesn't do it when it's wired at 450 and it also gets louder so I don't understand what is going on.
